History
The history of the UWC movement in mainland China dates back to 1973, when Premier Zhou Enlai nominated 15 students to attend UWC Atlantic College. These were the first students who went abroad to study after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Alumni
Most Chinese students from UWCs go on to pursue post-secondary education at prestigious universities all over the world; many receive scholarships to do so.
Chinese alumni are actively engaged in many fields in the world today, such as medicine, education, international relations, business, politics, arts and media.
In the ensuing years, a steady stream of Chinese students were selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and a number of affiliated schools and organisations to follow in the footsteps of these pioneers to represent China at UWC colleges.
In 1992, Prince Charles (then President of the UWC movement) officially opened Li Po Chun UWC of Hong Kong.
In 2010, the UWC National Committee of mainland China was established and took over the role of selecting students to attend UWCs.
