UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.
The UWC movement
United World Colleges (UWC) is a unique global educational movement that brings together young people from diverse backgrounds from all over the world with the explicit aim of promoting international understanding. Founded in 1962, UWC now has 12 schools and colleges, 145 national committees, and a variety of summer programmes on five continents.
UWC originated in the ideas of German educationalist Kurt Hahn. Hahn believed that much could be done to overcome hostility and conflict if young people from different nations, races and religions could be brought together to learn from each other.
The opening of the first UWC college was regarded by The Times as "the most exciting experiment in education since the Second World War".
For more information on UWC, please visit http://www.uwc.org.
UWC schools and colleges bring together students from all over the world – selected on personal merit and potential, irrespective of race, religion, politics and the ability to pay – with the explicit aim of fostering peace and international understanding.

“The striking feature of the United World Colleges is that they embrace the entire world… they are unique and they are conscious of their responsibilities."
Nelson Mandela
Honorary President of the UWC movement
