History
For decades, UWC alumni and friends had dreamed of establishing a UWC in China. Mark Wang (a Red Cross Nordic UWC alumnus from 2000) steadfastly pursued
this dream and forged partnerships with many generous supporters in the last ten years. In 2010, he was joined by Xiaohang Hua Sumner (UWC-USA alumna), who took a leave of absence from her position at Red Cross Nordic UWC to return to China.
In 2010, they established the UWC National Committee of China. Soon after, a core team of alumni joined the effort and formed the executive committee.
In October 2012, at the gala to celebrate UWC's 50th anniversary, the UWC National Committee of China and the Changshu City Government signed a letter of intent to establish a UWC school in Changshu. The event was supported by many alumni and friends of UWC in China.
In February 2013, the project received Initial Notification status from the UWC International Board.
In October 2013, the UWC International Board granted UWC Changshu China preliminary approval.
